The Washington Nationals continue a four-game series tonight with game three in Philadelphia. It continues a seven-game road trip, including three in Chicago (NL). The Nationals dropped the second game of the series last night, 7–2. While the Nationals mustered only three hits in the contest, shortstop Luis García collected two of them in a 2-for-4 effort.

Game Notes

  • Luis García has hit safely in nine of his last ten games, going 15-for-39 (.385) with two doubles, a triple, two homers, 10 RBI, and three runs scored. Since joining the Washington Nationals on June 1, Garcia ranks among National League hitters in hits and doubles.
  • Patrick Corbin faces the Phillies for the second time this season and first at Citizens Bank Park in 2022. In his only previous start against Philadelphia this year, He
    suffered the loss and allowed nine runs, but only two earned, on eight hits in 3.1 innings. In his last start, Corbin pitched 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out four on August 1 at home against the Mets. Corbin took the loss in Washington’s 7-3 defeat.
  • First baseman Joey Meneses made his Major League debut on Tuesday after playing in the minors for ten years. In his first game, he homered for his first career hit. Meneses became the seventh Washington Nationals' player (2005-Pres.) to homer in his Major League debut, joining Carter Kieboom, Juan Soto, Michael A. Taylor, Tommy Milone, Ian Desmond, and Brandon Watson. Of those, only Kieboom, Soto, and Milone did it for their first career hit.
