The Red Wings dropped the series opener to Lehigh Valley on Independence day by a score of 5-1…the Wings scattered six hits, all singles, coming from six different players. The Red Wings' failure to pick up an extra-base hit in the contest was only the third time all year and the first time in a nine-inning game and second baseman Jake Noll picked up the lone RBI in the game, driving in left fielder Josh Palacios with a second-inning single to give the Wings a 1-0 lead.

RHP Carson Teel got the ball for the Wings in a spot-start and delivered four innings of work, allowing just one run on three hits…the Wings will send Nationals' top prospect Cade Cavalli to the mound today in search of just their sixth win in their last 25 games.

START THE CAR-SON: LHP Carson Teel got the start on Monday, pitching four innings and allowing just one earned run…the southpaw now has a 2.25 ERA (8 IP/2 ER) in two starts this season compared to his 5.76 ERA (25 IP/16 ER) in 13 appearances as a reliever…Teel has received little run support in his outings with the Wings scoring just one run in his two starts this season.

GUSHING FOR GUSHUE: With his hit in the 8th inning, C Taylor Gushue extends his hit-streak to five games…the 'Florida-man' has gone 7-for-18 (.389) with a pair of doubles and four RBI over that span…Gushue also extended his errorless streak to 20 games, going 5-for-5 in potential putouts, catching a runner stealing in the process…in 2022, Gushue has just two passed balls.

PUSHING P(ALACIOS): OF Josh Palacios went 1-for-4 in the Wings' loss on Monday, scoring the club's only run and extending his on-base streak to 14 games (since 6/19)…the Brooklyn-native is slashing .278/.369/.431 (58-for-209) and has the fourth-most hits (58) and doubles (9) on the club this season…last month, the former Auburn Tiger toted a .306 average (22-for-72), the fourth-best average on the club in June this season while also ranking tied for second for the most home runs (3) with INF Jake Noll…in 75 at-bats with Buffalo across 2021 and part of the 2022 season, Palacios only logged 18 hits and two doubles.

PATRICK STAR: RHP Patrick Murphy pitched a scoreless inning in relief, striking out a pair of batters in the process…Murphy is now averaging 11.8 K/9 (22.2 IP/29 K) and his 3.57 ERA is the fourth-best on the current roster.

A NATIONALS SECURITY RISK: In 12 games against the Wings this year, 1B/DH Darick Hall went 14-for-49 (.286) with six homers and 19 RBI as a member of the Lehigh Valley squad…Hall had three or more RBI in four separate games against Rochester this season…Last night, against the Washington Nationals, Hall went 3-for-5 with a double, RBI and, three runs scored.

CADE DAY: RHP Cade Cavalli will get the start today as the Red Wings look to even up the series in Lehigh Valley…in his last start versus the IronPigs (5/27), the Nationals' top prospect went five innings, allowing just one earned run and one hit…in seven outings where the righty exceeds five innings pitched, he has a 1.80 ERA (40 IP/8 ER)…in six outings where he throws fewer than five innings, he has an 11.64 ERA (20.1 IP/26 ER)…the 23-year-old has thrown at least five innings in one of his three starts versus Lehigh Valley this year.
