The Rochester Red Wings gave up the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth, losing 3-2 to the Clippers en route to their 17th straight loss of the season. The Wings have been swept in three straight series after dropping game six Sunday evening.

RHP Cade Cavalli got the start for Rochester, giving up six hits and a pair of runs in five innings of action. Cavalli now has the most innings logged of any pitcher on the squad this season with 85, with RHP Logan Verret in second with 81.2 innings pitched.

Both teams were held scoreless until Columbus took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on an RBI single from Rochester-native Ernie Clement and an RBI triple from Trenton Brooks. Rochester remained off the board until the seventh inning when 1B John Nagowski logged an RBI double that scored SS C.J. Abrams and cut the lead to 2-1. The Wings then tied it up in the eighth off LF Andrew Stevenson’s eighth homer of the season.

With the game tied heading into the bottom of the eighth, RHP Connor Sadzeck allowed Clement to register his second RBI with a double that scored Will Brennan and put Columbus up 3-2.

LHP Francisco Perez and RHP Tyler Clippard held the Clippers hitless and scoreless through two innings before Perez gave up the game-winning run.

Rochester’s historic losing streak has them sitting 12 games back of first place Jacksonville. During the Wings’ 17-game skid, they have been outscored by opponents 109-62 and have been shut out three separate times. The last time Rochester won a series was on June 5, when they defeated Buffalo 11-2 and secured a 4-2 series victory.

The Wings will rest on Monday in preparation for a six-game homestand at Frontier Field against Norfolk beginning on Tuesday. First pitch for that match is set for 7:05 p.m.
