Baby Shark is back! Jesse Dougherty of the Washington Post reports that OF Gerardo Parra has received an invite to Major League Spring Training with the Nats. Parra won a ring with the Nationals in 2019, where he provided good defense, and some clutch hits. Parra then spent 2020 in Japan where he failed to post an OPS over .700.

Parra signed again with the Nats in 2021 where he had similar offensive numbers in 53 games.

Why sign Parra then? First of all, energy. When you’re losing as much as this team likely will, it’s hard to stay positive. Some of you hate Baby Shark, and it’s fine to be wrong, but Parra’s influence will likely help the young guys stay engaged, and help keep the game fun for the veterans. Second of all, Parra was a defensive wizard with Arizona, and he can likely play a coaching role for Victor Robles, and (while not outfielders) Carter Kieboom, and Luis Garcia. Parra is by no means guaranteed a spot on the Nats’ big league roster, but I hope we can hear Baby Shark just one last time.
