Despite some hope that LHP MacKenzie Gore would make his Washington Nationals debut this season, it looks like that isn't going to happen. According to MLB.com, Gore will not be pitching for the Nationals this season as we enter the season's final few games.
Instead of pitching this year for the team, Gore will begin his offseason strength/stamina training early and be ready for the 2023 season. MLB.com quoted Gore discussing him beginning his offseason strength/stamina program, saying: "I feel good. I’m healthy. Just wanted to build up, kind of ran out of time. But I feel good, and I think it’s just time to get ready for next year. I’m looking forward to it."
On August 2, 2022, Gore, C. J. Abrams, Luke Voit, Robert Hassell, James Wood, and Jarlin Susana were traded to the Washington Nationals for Juan Soto and Josh Bell. However, Gore made four rehab appearances with the Nationals Triple-A team: the Rochester Red Wings. He didn't win any of those games, where he gave up seven runs on 16 hits and struck out nine. He had an average of .320 and a WHIP of 1.67
