According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Nationals and first baseman/outfielder Dominic Smith agree on a one-year deal. The deal is pending a physical, and Nightengale also adds that Smith will be playing first base (Twitter links).
Dominic Smith plays first baseman and is a left fielder. He was selected by the New York Mets with the 11th overall pick of the 2013 Major League Baseball draft out of Junípero Serra High School in Gardena, California, and made his MLB debut in 2017. In 2022, Smith had 134 at-bats with the Mets and yielded 11 runs, 26 hits, no homeruns, a batting average of .194, and an OPS of.560
