Quick Notes: Nationals extend manager Davey Martinez, close to deal with GM Mike Rizzo: The Athletic

The Nationals have signed manager Davey Martinez to a two-year contract extension and general manager Mike Rizzo also is close to a new deal, according to  Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli of The Athletic.

The Washington Nationals are in the middle of their third year of their "re-tool" and have been playing pretty well for a team full of young players. The Nationals are on a 12-5 roll and recently Baseball America ranked their farm system the eighth best in the Major Leagues.

Both Rizzo and Martinez are completing the option years on their current contracts. Martinez's record with the Nationals is 378-544 since becoming the manager in 2018 and obviously was the manager behind the Nationals' World Series Championship back in 2019.

Rizzo has once again that he can pick talent by identifying young talented pieces through either trades or the draft.
