Quick Notes: Post Game Quotes from Dave Martinez, Juan Soto, and Josh Rogers following the Nationals' loss to the Diamondbacks

The Nationals lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3 Thursday afternoon, here are some of the post-game quotes from the Nationals following the loss.

“He did okay, I thought his slider was a little flat today... The home runs, obviously, burnt him today, but I thought he threw the ball fine. I mean, look, he’s going to go out there and compete, and he’s going to get hit, but just the slider today was not sharp, and he threw two sliders right in the middle of the plate and both got hit for home runs. The other one was a fastball, he tried to get in and it just leaked over the plate. But like I said, he’s going to keep us in the game and I thought he did that today.” - Dave Martinez on Josh Rogers's outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks

“We had opportunities the last couple innings to put the game away, and we just couldn't do it. But I'll take my chances with those guys, especially Juan [Soto] up there in that situation.” Dave Martinez on the Nationals losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks 4-3

“Really competed and grinded there those first two innings... and just was pulling off of everything and just behind in the count. It’s tough to pitch at this level when you’re behind in the count. And to grind out — to get into the fifth was good, but wasn’t my best today. - Josh Rogers about his performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks

"I felt great, I felt like my fastball command was good, the slider was just kind of hanging out there today, i wasn’t really finishing the pitch, just wasn’t my best today.” Josh Rogers about his performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks

"I'll take my chances with Juan up there with the bases loaded... I hope he gets up there a lot with the bases loaded." Dave Martinez on having Juan Soto at-bat with the bases loaded in the bottom of ninth.

“I get two outs there in the first, give up a homer... go out there for the second, two outs in the second, give up a homer, on bad breaking balls, just two bad pitches, and then I felt like the homer there in the fifth was probably the best pitch out of all of them, it is what it is. Wasn’t good today." Josh Rogers about his performance against the Arizona Diamondbacks

Just try to win the game,” Soto said of his first thought when he approached the plate. “Try to get a single, and try to bring the runners in.” “It was a bad pitch -- I swung at a ball,” Soto said. “There’s nothing that I can do with a bad pitch. I’ve got to look for pitches in the strike zone to make good contact. For me, I just go out there. If I miss, I miss. I’m not going to be scared to miss it. I just go out there and try to do my job. If it goes my way, that’s great. If not, I’m going to get another chance.” Juan Soto discusses his at-bat at the bottom of the ninth.

"The one thing I noticed today was he was getting ready really early... He was getting his foot down on time, but for me, it's just a matter of time. This guy is going to hit; we know that. But once he starts doing that, he'll start driving the balls, and you'll start seeing a lot more balls leaving the park." Dave Martinez on DH Nelson Cruz
