Welcome to the start of Spring Training 2022! who would have thought that we would be here at this point last week? Well we are hear and there is actual baseball news to cover. Just in case you missed the latest news overnight here is a quick recap:
Arms Race in the NL East: Pitching is going to be a big factor this season as teams such as the Mets and Phillies have already made some trades and signings to improve there staff. We will start with the Mets.
Yesterday, the Mets acquired starting pitcher Chris Bassitt from Oakland A's in exchange for prospects.
As of now here is there starting pitching rotation:
Jacob deGromMax ScherzerChris BassittCarlos CarrascoTaijuan Walker
Tylor Megill, David Peterson, Jordan Yamamoto, and Trevor Williams as depth.
The Phillies were also busy yesterday. They signed Jeurys Familia, who often gave Mets’ fans headaches at the end of games, now has a new home.
The 32-year-old reliever reached a one-year, $6 million deal with the Phillies that could be worth as much as $7 million with incentives, according to The Post’s Mike Puma.
The Nationals were also busy yesterday. We reported that they signed Steve Cishek to one-year deal. And according to Jesse Doughtery of the Washington Post, Strasburg was seen throwing from a flat surface.
