The Baker's were in Major League Baseball's headlines on Tuesday night. Washington Nationals former manager Dusty Baker reached 2,000 wins as he became the 12th member -- and first black manager -- of the 2,000-win club as the Houston Astros beat the Mariners, 4-0, at Minute Maid Park. He joins 11 other managers to reach 2,000 career victories, 10 of them are currently in the Baseball Hall of Fame. This achievement may have solidified his spot in the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York.
1,500 miles away at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington, Del, another Baker had a great night as Darren Baker, Dusty's son, cracked a walk-off sacrifice fly to help the Wilmington Blue Rocks win 3-2. To bring home the winning run, Baker hit a 1-2 pitch into a deep center field.
During the game, Baker went 1-for-4 as the Blue Rocks’ leadoff hitter, reaching on an infield single on the game's first pitch. On the year, the 23-year-old is batting .296 with a .761 OPS, seven extra-base hits, and 10 RBIs in 20 games.
