Well, another reason why I believe that the Washington Nationals' will not be trading Juan Soto at this year's trade deadline, and a recent tweet by Ken Rosenthal pretty summarizes why I believe this.

According to Rosenthal, "multiple clubs saying Nats’ ask for Soto is 4 to 5 top youngsters, combo of prospects and major leaguers with low service time. Ten days from deadline, Nats aren’t negotiating, one exec says. A team either shows willingness to meet price, or Nats move on."

Which makes sense; the Nationals currently have Juan Soto under team control through the 2024 season, so teams would be acquiring Soto for two and a half years unless they sign him to an extension, which would almost certainly be the richest contract in the history of baseball and possibly American sports. According to many MLB insiders, The Nationals' front office seems to be focusing on prospects or recently graduated prospects makes sense because they have legitimately no reason to get back competent major leaguers if those major leaguers are hitting free agency in the next three or so years in return for Juan Soto.

I am a bit surprised that the Nationals are taking this approach for Soto, which makes sense as this trade can be considered franchise-altering; the stakes are high. If the Nationals' felt that there was no deal to be made, then I think their posture would've been a bit different, right? Or is the Nationals' front office being extra careful to ensure that if the Nationals decide to trade Juan the players have an impact right away to help the fan base think that the trade made sense for the team moving forward.
