Last summer the Washington Nationals officially entered their "re-build" or "re-tool" or whatever you want to call it. Here is an update on the state of the six trades that Mike Rizzo made at the July 31, 2021 deadline:

Of the 8 players traded by the Washington Nationals, only SS Trea Turner remains with the team he was traded to.

The other 7:

  • Max Scherzer traded to the LA Dodgers, now with the New York Mets

  • Brad Hand was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays now with the Philadelphia Phillies

  • Kyle Schwarber was traded to the Boston Red Sox, now with Philadelphia Phillies

  • Daniel Hudson was traded to San Diego Padres, now with the Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Yan Gomes traded to Oakland Athletics, now with the Chicago Cubs

  • Josh Harrison traded to Oakland Athletics, now with the Chicago White Sox

  • Jon Lester was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals now retired.

12 players received in return, half are in the majors right now:

  • Keibert Ruiz

  • Josiah Gray

  • Lane Thomas

  • Riley Adams

  • Mason Thompson (though currently on 10-day IL)

  • Donovan Casey (just promoted from minors to replace Dee Strange-Gordon on 10-day IL)

Of the 6 others, 4 are on the Washington Nationals' "Top 30 Prospects" list at numbers 7, 11, 20, and 28.

The other 2 had been on the list in the high 20s but just dropped off when the latest was posted. All 12 players received in the trades remain with the Washington Nationals.
