Game 6 Storylines and Notes
The Sens lead the series 3 games to 2 and the season series 7 games to 4. Today’s game is the last of the season between the two ball clubs. The Senators fell to 4 games back of division leading Erie last night. The Fightin Phils pulled within a game of Northeast Division leading Portland last night.
The Sens and Fighting Phils will play their series and season finale this afternoon at FNB Field. The Sens will hand the ball to recently promoted Yoel Tejeda Jr for his first AA start. Tejeda Jr is the Washington Nationals # 16 overall prospect.
The Fightin Phils will counter with RHP Braydon Tucker. Tucker has lost 3 of his last 5 starts and has not won a game since winning 2 straight starts in the beginning of June. Somerset hit Tucker extremely hard in his last outing. He only lasted 3 innings allowing 7 runs on 7 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3.
Today’s matinee game is the last home game for the Senators for the next two weeks. They hit the road next week to take on the Portland Sea Dogs, AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and then travel to Bowie to take on the Chesapeake Baysox before returning back to FNB Field on August 11th. First pitch for tomorrow’s finale is scheduled for 1 o’clock.

LAST GAME RECAP
Senators starting pitcher Josh Randall had a tough start in Saturday night’s ball game. The Fightin Phils got the Randall on the third pitch of the game when lead off hitter Bryan Rincon took Randall deep to right center field. They also tallied a run in the 2nd inning and two home runs in the 4th off the bats of Caleb Rickett and Bryan Rincon, his 2nd of the evening. The Sens started chipping away in the 4th when Kevin Pichardo and TJ White traded places on doubles, Pirchardo’s scoring Branden Boissiere and White’s scoring Pichardo. The Senators cut the lead in half on a bomb just inside the left field foul pole by Senators CF Johnathan Thomas. Kervin Pichardo plated Sam Petersen on a sac fly in the bottom of the 5th to pull within 2 of the visiting Fightin Phils. Thomas Schultz, Jhancarlos Lara, Aaron Shortridge and Blake Brown would shut down the Fightin Phils offense for the remainder of the game going a combined 5 innings allowing 0 runs, 0 hits, 2 walks and striking out 9. It was another impressive performance by the Sens bullpen. The Sens came into the bottom of the 9th inning down two. Sens gave Reading their best punch in thee 9th. With one out in the 9th Johnathan Thomas singled, Sam Petersen and Devin Fitz-Gerald were hit by pitches to load the bases. On the next at bat Branden Boissiere walked to bring in the 5th run and pull the Senators within 1. Bases loaded, one out, needing just 1 run to tie and the winning run on second base. Kervin Pichardo, who has been extremely hot of late, would strike out and Devin Ortiz would fly out to left center field to end the ball game and send the outstanding crowd of 6.309 (or at least half) home wondering what could’ve been. The Sens would go onto to fall to the Fightin Phils 6-5.

After today’s game the Sens will make the long trip to Portland to pay a visit to the Northeast Division leading Sea Dogs. The AA affiliate of the Boston Red Sox and the Senators will play a 6 game set that will open on Tuesday night 28th. The series will feature all night games starting at 6pm with the exception of afternoon games on Wednesday (12:05 PM) and Sunday (1:00 PM). This will be the first meeting of the season between the Sea Dogs and Senators.
