The Rochester Red Wings are International League champions for the first time since 1997.
Down 2-1 in the eighth inning against Memphis, Andrew Pinckney delivered a game-tying double. Cortland Lawson—who hadn’t expected to play—followed with the hit that brought Pinckney home. Rochester held on for a 3-2 win and its first league title as the Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate.
We spoke with manager Matt LeCroy, Pinckney and Lawson after the game about the comeback, the moment that decided it and what this championship means to Rochester.
