The Red Wings went two and four this week against first-place Lehigh Valley and almost split the series. On Wednesday night, Seth Shuman had a great pitching performance, pitching five shutout innings, and the Wings took the shutout into the last inning before losing the shutout and the game 4-2.

Rob Hassell III had his first four-hit game in AAA on Thursday and followed that up with another four-hit game on Friday night, along with two long-distance homers. Andrew Pinckney had a great week, too. Pickney had four multi-hit games by reducing the strike zone and not chasing pitches off the plate. He went 8-19 (.421), and Pinckney and Hassell hit back-to-back homers in the first inning of Friday night’s game.

This was the first time this season that Rochester won a one-run game, doing it on Friday and the second game of Sunday’s doubleheader. On Friday, the Red Wings were behind by three runs in the last inning, and on Sunday, they were behind by two runs when they came back and forced extra innings in both games. On Friday, Andrew Knizner had the walk-off hit, and on Sunday, Franchy Cordero delivered the walk-off hit for the win.

Rochester travels again to Scranton Wilkes-Barre for a seven-game series (doubleheader on Wednesday). Shuman will start Tuesday’s game. Game time against the RailRiders is 6:35.
