With today's victory, the Nationals improve to 52-51 on the season, once again climbing above the .500 mark. While the team still sits behind Philadelphia, Miami, and Atlanta in arguably baseball's toughest division, they remain right in the middle of the National League Wild Card hunt. Every game over the next week or so will be magnified as the August 3rd trade deadline approaches. There is no hiding that another series victory could continue pushing the front office toward adding pieces instead of subtracting them.

The repetitive story surrounding the Nationals continues to be the contrast between one of baseball's best offenses and one of its least consistent bullpens. The offense has continued to rank among the MLB leaders in runs scored all season, recently refusing to drop out of the number one spot while producing one of the youngest lineups in baseball. Players throughout the lineup have consistently stepped up, giving Washington the ability to compete against almost anyone on any given night.

While the bullpen has and will continue to be heavily criticized throughout the season, today's win showed why this team is still capable of making noise down the stretch. If the pitching staff can continue limiting late-game mistakes, the offense should have no pressure, and continue to keep up its current production, the Nationals suddenly become a much more dangerous team entering August. The recipe for success has been evident all season, it comes down to getting enough reliable pitching to complement one of the league's most explosive offenses.

The Rochester Red Wings, the Nats Triple-A affiliate, fell 9-2 to Buffalo, moving to 57-39 on the season but remaining in first place in the International League. Despite the loss, Brady House continued his strong season by launching his eighth home run of the year, while Abimelec Ortiz drove in his 70th RBI of the season to put him at 2nd amongst the whole International League.

The Harrisburg Senators, the Nats Double-A affiliate, bounced back in a big way with a 12-2 victory over Reading, improving to 46-44 on the year. Harrisburg's offense erupted for 15 hits, led by Branden Boissiere, who collected two hits and drove in three runs. Branden continues to be a name coming up positively in the recaps, as he continues his chase for a Triple-A call up.

The Wilmington Blue Rocks, the Nats High-A affiliate, dropped a 6-3 contest to Hudson Valley, dropping their record to 45-45 on the season. Branden Walsh continued to stay hot, finishing 3-for-4 with his sixth home run of the season and driving in two of Wilmington's three runs. Number one prospect and Nats first overall pick Eli Willits also added a hit as the Blue Rocks look to bounce back later this week.

The Fredericksburg Nationals, the Nats Single-A affiliate, responded from Monday's loss with a 9-6 victory over Fayetteville, improving to 58-34 on the season while maintaining first place in the Carolina League North. Nationals No. 8 prospect Gavin Fien continued his strong season with two hits and an RBI, continuing to play up to his potential as he chases the path that fellow prospect Willits has been on.
