Nats Still Finding Offensive and Defensive Balance

As the pitching begins to heat up and find their groove, the bats have slowly cooled off, as the Nats look to find the balance between a good offensive game and a good defensive game. It seems so far for the most part, they can’t have 2 go right in the same game.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
The Nats pitching has allowed 15 runs, 4 runs, and 2 runs in their 3 games against the Pirates so far. The game out of those 3 that they won? The one where they gave up 4. A 5-4 win on Tuesday was awesome, but being sandwiched between a 16-5 and 2-0 loss shows the early season inconsistencies from this young Nats team.
The good pitching in the last 2 games has come from Jake Irvin and the Nats bullpen. After allowing 2 runs in the first, Irvin quickly settled down, throwing 4.1 scoreless innings and ending his outing with only 2 ER. In their 5-4 win over the Pirates the bullpen finally began to settle down, having their last 4 relievers allow 0 earned runs.
Offensively the hot offense finally cooled off yesterday, putting up only 3 hits total in the 0-2 loss to the Pirates. However, the previous 2 games in the series against them, they put up 9 hits and 8 hits. Still leading the MLB in runs per game with 5.82, we know the Nats offense can score powerfully, they just need to get to doing it when the pitching is playing good.
In their final game against the Pirates and moving into the San Francisco Giants series, keep an eye out for the pitching to continue stringing together good outings with rookie manager Blake Butera doing a great job of placing his players in situations to succeed so far in 2026.

Harrisburg Senators move to 8-2 on the year, pick up dominant 13-8 win Tuesday led by their number 7 prospect Seaver King with 3-4, 3 Run, 5 RBI outing. Keep an eye out for these young stars on their team to move up the farm system and start for the Nats someday in the future.
