Nats Win 3 of Last 4, Back on Track

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Since they got swept last week and dropped below the .500 threshold, it seems the Nats saw it as a wake-up call, winning 3 of their last 4 since then. The pitching has quickly gotten back on track, the hitting has been much more consistent, and the team has quickly brushed off any negativity that came with those losses, and got right back to stringing together wins.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
With their current bounce back, the Nats are back above .500, sitting at 34-33 on the year, 3rd in the NL East and 2.5 games back from 2nd. With very low expectations for the year, the Nats have easily superseded them, competing with the best of the best so far, and so far putting themselves in a place where they can attack a wild card spot after All-Star break. So far this year, the NL looks wide open, with 6 teams all within one game of each other for the wild card spots. If the Nats keep playing how they are and go on a little run again, they position themselves nice before the break.
With a lot of talk recently about how much Zack Littell has turned his season around, it feels some of the spotlight should also be given to Miles Mikolas. Mikolas, the 37 year-old veteran acquired in the offseason, had a very rough start to the year, having a 14.46 ERA at one point in April. Since then, he has lowered his ERA in every start except one, and is now currently at a 5.90 on the year, with no sign of slowing down. Although his ERA is still high, as a later arm in the Nats rotation, Mikolas has greatly shown he can handle the role, posting a 3.52 ERA in 5 May starts.
Nats Daylen Lile is slowly becoming a piece of the team the Nats can trust, giving consistent ABs and having much better bats with runners in scoring position. In his last 7 games, Lile has tallied 8 hits, a homer and a .296 batting average. Struggling early in the season with RISP, always trying to make the hero play, Lile has shortened up his bat as of late, and started to play much more solid, notably also tallying 5 RBIs in his last 5 starts.
Some more Nats metrics… As discussed last week, they seem to play better against better teams, but another major stat seemingly proving true this season so far is the Nats away game tendencies. In almost completely random fashion, the Nats have the 3rd best away record in the MLB, sitting at 22-13 when on the road. This is a huge stat for them, especially if they make it to the playoffs later in the season, showing their adversity and not letting any location change the way they play the game.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
With the historic run Nats All-Star CJ Abrams is on, the Nats clubhouse can only sit back and enjoy his productivity for the team.
“We just continue to talk to CJ and tell him how happy we are that he's on our team, and the way he's gone about it,” said Butera. “He's been an absolute pro, the way he's playing.”
In their recent run, it is also worth noting that the team is really gaining their confidence as a young squad, finding their chemistry and becoming more and more dangerous every game.
“We're just a young group who's very confident in their abilities,” said Lile. “It's just a matter of time for us to show everybody what we're capable of doing, and I feel like we're doing that so far.”

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
A busy week for the Nats farm league system as two of the Nats most promising prospects so far this season go on the move! Eli Willits, the Nats 2025 number one overall pick, and current number one overall prospect, has been reassigned from Single-A to High-A, a move that’s seemed it was coming for a while now. Devin Fitz-Gerald, Nats number 5 ranked prospect has also been moved up concurrently, moving from High-A to Double-A after a fantastic season thus far.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
Eli Willits reassignment was extremely expected for Nats fans, as the 18 year-old star has been absolutely tearing up in minors as of late. Playing for the Nats Single-A affiliate Fred Nats, Willits had recently raised his batting average to .300, hitting .381 so far in June and hitting .342 in the month of May. As young as Willits is, his ceiling could not be higher as he develops on his way to the majors. With his age, he has been talked about in comparisons to Bryce Harper and Mike Trout, 2 players Nats fans can only hope they see a fraction of out of Eli.
With Willits move to the Wilmington Blue Rocks in High-A, it was only right for Devin Fitz-Gerald to get his call up to Double-A. While Willits has been raking down in Single-A, Fitz-Gerald has been steadily putting up amazing numbers for the Blue Rocks. The 20 year-old shortstop peaked this season batting .325, consistently finding ways to get on base, while also tallying 12 homers on the season along with 11 stolen bases. Let’s hope to see Fitz-Gerald and Willits continue working up the ranks in the minors as they chase their big league debut.
In even more exciting minor league news for Nats fans, Nats number 8 overall prospect Gavin Fien was awarded Carolina League Player of the Week. Having a sluggish start to the season, this is a huge accomplishment for Fien, and a sigh of relief for Nats fans. It is also well deserved, as in the week, Fien has batted .500, hitting 2 homers and raising his batting average from .159 to .235 in just one week. Showing he is capable of being the start the Nats hope to see one day, let’s hope he can keep this streak going and work his way up the ranks.
