The Nats Busy Week Continues

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
The Nats continue their busy week with their series against the Marlins followed by a road trip to Arizona to take on the Diamondbacks, as they fight to stay above .500. Currently sitting at 31-30 on the season, the Nats are much better than their record shows, especially when you factor in the tough teams they’ve played, and young squad and staff they’re working with.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
In ESPN’s most recent RPI rankings, the Nats were listed at 6th in the entire league. These rankings are a ranking of the whole MLB that takes into account opponent’s winning percentage in wins and losses, essentially showing who the best teams are based on strength of schedule, wins and losses. The Nats are clearly one of the most battle tested teams, based on the fact they are only one game above .500 and are 6th in RPI rankings
In their year of insane offensive talent, other than their obvious dynamic duo of CJ Abrams and James Wood, it seems every week there is another supporting role member also stepping up. In yesterday's loss, Jacob Young hit a 2 run homer, moving him up to 8 on the season. Despite seeming pretty average, this is HUGE for Young, as in his 3 year MLB career before this season began, he had only hit 5 combined. Already doubling his career total, it is safe to say his career is taking a step in the right direction.
Over the weekend, Nats starting pitcher Zack Littell finished off his insanely outstanding month of May. In only 6 starts, Littell won 5 of them. Going 5-0 in the month of May with a 2.35 ERA through 30.2 IP is something Nats fans did not expect, and could not possibly appreciate enough. Considering the rough start he had to the year, this turn around gives the Nats even more precedented hope as they look to compete for a playoff spot later down the road this season.
In their current stretch of amazing outcomes, the Nats have ripped off 6 straight series without a loss, going 5-0-1 in them. The last series they lost was back in early May against the Marlins, the team they are now in an 0-1 series hole against, and will have to fight to keep their streak alive. Being the better team so far this season, it is possible for them to win the next 2, but they will have to have some big games from the offense to propel them over this speed bump.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
Despite completely turning his season around, Zack Littell assures that not much has changed from a team aspect, and that the team is just clicking overall and have finally found their rhythm and chemistry.
"I'm not sure that the actual vibes changed all that much,” Littell said of the May surge. “The group is just more confident. You got a team full of young guys, being in games, taking series from teams that are really good, the Braves, the Padres. It’s only going to continue to build confidence in these guys and then go out and compete with anybody."
📈 MORNING STAT
The Nats have not won or tied 6 series like they have currently since 2019, when they did so with 6 straight series wins/ties, finally losing the streak to the Mets in September.

Nats Drop First Game to Marlins, Look to Bounce Back in Next 2

🔥 HEADLINE
Final Score: Nationals 3, Marlins 7
Date: June 1, 2026
Location: Nationals Park
⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Nats lose first game of the series to the Marlins 7-3 in early high powered offensive game that inevitably cooled off. Jacob Young got the Nats on the board early with a 2 run homer, but it was not enough as the Marlins scored runs late in the 6th and then the 9th to seal the deal, in a late game where the Nats went cold. The Nats look to hit em where it hurts tomorrow, and move to even the series, hopefully having much stronger bats.
📊 THE BOX SCORE
Winning Pitcher: Sandy Alcantra ([4–4], 7.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 5 K)
Losing Pitcher: Richard Lovelady ([2–3], 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K)
Key Hitters:
Jacob Young: 1-for-4, HR, 2 RBI
CJ Abrams: 1-for-4, Single, Run
James Wood: 1-for-4, Single, Run
Team RISP: [1-for-2]
Errors: Nats 0, Marlins 1
Attendance: 11,808
📈 MORNING STAT
The Nats are now 1-3 against the Marlins on the year. Despite being the better team, they continue to have the Nats number, leaving the Nats to hope for a big 2 bounce-back games.

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
In a day off on Monday for all 4 Minor League affiliates, there was still some interesting minor league news. With new reassignments and new minor league awards being handed out, the Nats Minor league affiliates continue to shine, still with every farm affiliate on fire and sitting above .500 on the season.
Rochester Red Wings standout Abimelec Ortiz was awarded International League Player of the Week on Monday, which was well deserved.
In his last 9 games, Ortiz has tallied 15 hits and 7 homers in 38 at bats, batting .390 through those games and 3 walks. The homers enough are absolutely insane, and on top of all this he continues to get on base in any way that he can. Let’s hope more great things can come from the Red Wings, Nats Triple-A affiliate who currently sit at 34-22, 1st place in the International League.
Another key move that happened today was the reassignment and move up of Miguel Sime Jr., the Nats number 17 prospect, who has recently been dealing on the Fred Nats.
Sime is one of the Nats most promising prospects who has currently been down in Single-A playing for the Nats affiliate Fredericksburg Nationals. The Fred Nats currently sit at 37-14, first in the Carolina League. In the month of May, Sime tallied double the amount of strikeouts to innings pitched, throwing 11 innings and striking out 22.
📈 MORNING STAT
The Nats 4 minor league affiliates are a combined 125-83 on the season, 42 games above .500, with every team also sitting above .500 on the year.
