Today's Top Stories: Is there a blockbuster trade involving the Washington Nationals in the works?
Here are the latest Washington Nationals and MLB Headlines for Monday, November 23, 2020
Towards the end of last week, some rumors surrounding Chicago Cubs Third baseman Kris Bryant possibly got traded to the Washington Nationals. According to MLB.com'sMLB.com's Jon Morosi, the Washington Nationals are interested in trading for Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant. Additionally, according to Morsi'sMorsi's multiple sources, the Nationals are also interested in utility infielder player DJ LeMahieu whom they also pursued as a free agent two offseason ago.
There is some speculation that Carter Kieboom and a pitcher or even center fielder Victor Robles might be part of a trade package for the third baseman Kris Bryant.
Bryant, who is currently 28, is coming off by far the worst season of his career when he batted just .206 with four homers and 11 RBIs. The one flag that gets raised is that Bryant is only one year away from free agency, so if the Nationals do engage the Cubs with a trade, it would be a smart idea to negotiate a long-term deal with Bryant to keep him in Washington for longer than a year especially if they are going to be trading away a couple of prospects. As we have noted, the Nationals need a third baseman after losing Anthony Rendon to the Angels in free agency last December. Washington third basemen's hit a combined .204 batting average and only two home runs this shortened season.

In Major League Baseball news, the makeover of the Minor League by Major League continues. As we reported this week, the Rochester Red Wings are now the Washington Nationals triple-A team. Additionally, the Houston Astros buy the Sugar Land Skeeters and add the formerly independent Atlantic League team as its Triple-A affiliate for 2021 and beyond. The Sugar Land Skeeters will play in the pacific coast league and will replace the Round Rock Express as the top Astros affiliate. With this move, the Astros will now have ownership of three of its four minor league affiliates.
