Washington Nationals 2025 Season
Game Recap

Before addressing the 100-ton mega bomb that reportedly exploded during yesterday’s post-game press conference with Dave Martinez, it’s important to note that the Washington Nationals lost again to the Miami Marlins, currently at the bottom of the NL East standings, on Saturday afternoon. This marks the Nationals’ second consecutive defeat to the Marlins and extends their losing streak to seven games.
STORY TYPE
Is Davey Martinez’s time with the Nationals coming to an end?

After the Nationals dropped their seventh straight game—this time to the Miami Marlins—manager Davey Martinez made a post-game comment that many are calling a bombshell. His response to a routine press conference question has only added fuel to the fire, and it feels like the pressure is mounting in both the clubhouse and the front office.
There’s no single way to interpret Martinez’s remarks, and both sides of the story may hold some truth. Players must take responsibility for their performance at the plate and in the field, but it’s equally the coaching staff’s job to put those players in the best positions to succeed. Right now, that isn’t happening. Struggling players like Josh Bell continue to see playing time, and the lineup decisions have been questionable. There’s also a noticeable lack of attention to fundamentals—things like base running and situational hitting are falling through the cracks.
Ultimately, the responsibility for improvement rests with the coaching staff, and especially with Davey Martinez. It’s up to him to set the tone, hold his staff accountable, and ensure the team is focused on development and execution. If the players have tuned out the coaches, that’s a serious problem. But if the manager himself is not demonstrating leadership or accountability—as his recent comments may suggest—then the issue is even more urgent.
This roster is loaded with promising young talent, both on the field and in the farm system. After years of rebuilding, it’s disheartening to see these players struggle without the veteran leadership and coaching they need. The young core and the fans deserve a staff that will both support and teach them at this critical stage of their development. Who will step up as a leader in the Nationals’ clubhouse? While veteran presence is important, it’s ultimately the head coach’s job to rally and guide the team through adversity.
The Nationals can’t afford to waste another season. The Lerner family and Mike Rizzo face a tough decision, but true leadership means making hard choices when necessary. The team—and especially the fans—deserve better.
