As we quickly approach opening day for Major League Baseball, the Washington Nationals yesterday announced that there would be no fans in the stands for the season's first game against the New York Mets.
According to a Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency, a letter was sent to the team Tuesday. The Nationals will not be allowed to have any fans in the stands for Opening Day. DC Health Director told the Nationals decision to allow fans at games could be reconsidered later this month based on COVID-19 metrics, but for now, the Nationals will be playing at Nats Park without Fans.
"We are looking forward to fans returning to Nats Park. Answers as to how many and when are still premature," HSEMA Director Christopher Rodriguez wrote in the letter to Nationals leadership.
"I'm hoping over the next few weeks they revisit," Manager Davey Martinez said. "I said it before, we miss our fans. They're the 27th man. We want them in the stadium. It would be nice to get them in there for opening day."
Yesterday, news broke that the Washington Nationals have been linked to top international prospect Christian Vaquero. We have a full wrap-up here.
Here is an expert from the article: "Vaquero is a 16 year old center fielder from Cuba and Baseball America says that he has plus speed, a strong arm and good defensive instincts. On the offensive side he has a solid left handed bat and similar to Cruz, he projects to grow into some more power."
On Monday, we released a fresh new episode of In the Clubhouse with the Nats Report. Richard sat down with the Managing Editor of Fish Stripes and discussed what the Miami Marlins were up to during the offseason. Take a listen to the discussion on your favorite podcasting platform.
