Welcome to the Morning Briefing! The Nationals won game one of the series but lost Gallo to an injury. Let’s talk about it.
Despite Mitchell Parker having the worst start of his major league career, the Nationals won the game. Parker allowed four runs, all technically unearned, off four hits and three walks over 4.2 innings. The initial error was Parker’s but Luis García Jr. had a throwing error to help Riley Greene have an inside-the-park grand slam.
The Nats battled though, tying the game up in the top of the eighth which inevitably led to their 5-4 victory. Abrams had the only extra-base hit, a triple. Lane Thomas hit a sac fly to drive in Jacob Young to get the final run.

In the game, Joey Gallo went down with an apparent hamstring injury. We’ve reported that Trey Lipscomb is the lucky man to get called up. He is the only player on the 40-man roster that can cameo at first base currently. So far in Triple-A this season, Lipscomb has hit .247/.286/.290. On the 40-man, Stone Garrett makes little to no sense either, as he has just one extra-base hit in almost 100 Triple-A plate appearances.
Juan Yepez, an offseason minor league signing is probably the next best available option, with a .239/.343/.415 triple slash.
Jake Irvin (4-5, 3.12 ERA) will take on Reese Olson (1-7, 3.43 ERA) tonight at 6:40 p.m. ET and the game will be televised on MASN2.
