Good Monday Morning, Washington Nationals Fans. Thank you for starting the day with us.

Today's Top Story: Mike Rizzo and Josh Bell Meet the Press

Over the weekend, Mike Rizzo and the brand new Washington Nationals first baseman Josh Bell met reporters over a Zoom call and was asked about the trade and other topics.

Our friend Stephen from Talk Nats.com has a great wrap up of the Q&A. A highlight from the article: "Hocus pocus, things are coming into focus. Acquiring Josh Bell via the Christmas Eve 2020 trade with the Pirates was a much needed first step for a team that had the best record in the NL East for the previous 10 years. Yes, tell those Braves fans who are deniers of the facts that they are exhibiting willful ignorance if they try to cherry-pick the results. The Nats are 836-681 in the last ten years while the Braves were only at 787-730. Recall that the Braves had some dreadful losing seasons from 2014-2017. The news was even worse for the Mets and Phillies as their teams had losing records in that time span at 740-778 and 718-800, respectively. Again, these are facts."

Two interesting points from the press conference that we noticed:

Ryan Zimmerman.

One of the big questions that surfaced right after the trade was announced was what is going to happen to Ryan Zimmerman. Mike Rizzo was asked if this trade made a "reunion" with Ryan Zimmerman not possible during the call. Rizzo responded: "I would put it this way. I think that the acquisition of Josh Bell isn't going to prohibit us from looking for a good right-handed hitter that either comes off the bench or plays multiple positions or something like that. So we certainly haven't ruled out a Zimmerman reunion, and you know that that skillset still fits on our roster." To many, this is good news, and we still think that Ryan Zimmerman would be a significant presence to have in the clubhouse and also in-between the lines on the field.

Big News Comes via a Call from the G.M.

Getting a call from your boss is never good right before Christmas, and apparently, that is how Josh Bell found out the news that he was getting traded to the Washington Nationals. After receiving the call from the Pittsburgh G.M., Josh Bell got many texts and calls from friends and family and was pretty excited about joining the Washington Nationals.
