Today's Top Story: Nationals Drop 2 of 3 in New York against the New York Mets

The Washington Nationals offense continues to struggle as they drop two of three over the weekend against the New York Mets. The Nationals are now in last place in the NL East and two games behind the New York Mets. The Nationals record is 8-11, and are 3-6 away from Nats Park and 5-5 at home.

Yesterday, poor baserunning was on full display against the New York Mets. Yesterday, Josh Harrison got picked off at first base, and an error in judgment by Victor Robles, trying to push a double into a triple, caused the Nationals to get shut out against the Mets. Robles hit a liner into the right-center gap in the top of third, and ran past second base, and was tagged out at third on a strong throw by second baseman Jonathan Villar. Robles ran straight through a stop sign from third-base coach Bobby Henley.

"Reflecting back on it, I probably … with the pitcher behind me … it would have been safer and better for me to stay at second base," Robles said in Spanish through a team interpreter after the game in a Zoom conference. "That would have been the smarter play and have him bunt me over. But at the same time, I give them all the credit in the world; they made a great play right there."

If there wasn't more bad news that I could write about, Trea Turner exited yesterday's game with a left forearm contusion after a pitch hit him in the sixth. X-rays were negative, manager Dave Martinez said, and the shortstop will be reevaluated before Tuesday's matchup with the Toronto Blue Jays in Dunedin, Fla.

On the mound, Patrick Corbin continues his un-even pitching performance this season with another rough start for the lefty. According to observers, Corbin struggled to locate his fastball in the bottom of the first, and his slider was off. One of those misplaced sliders would go over the plate to J.D. Davis, who then had a two-run home run. Corbin is 0-3 with a 10.47 ERA.

"It's frustrating," Corbin said. "You just try to learn from it. It's just tough not being able to go out there and do my job. … You've got to just continue to do your work in between and try to turn things around."

Soto Back by Friday, according to Reports.

Per Mark Zuckerman and Al Galdi on the Nats Chat Podcast, Juan Soto will be eligible to come off the injured list as early as Friday. According to Martinez, Soto began hitting off a tee to get ready to return to the lineup. We will have more as developments occur.
