Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Washington Nationals vs. St. Louis Cardinals. If you needed a pick me up right before the start of the 2022 season, then you should not take a look at the score of yesterday's Nationals vs. Cardinals game at West Palm Beach. Honestly, there are really a few words to describe what happened to the team yesterday and we aren't going to try to put lipstick on a pig and say "Oh, it's just Spring Training..." Jon Heyman said it best in a tweet yesterday afternoon: "The Nats have been one of the winningest teams over the past decade, and I have faith in their future. But the present could be a bit rough. Spring training doesn’t count but their 29-8 defeat to the Cardinals left them 1-10 in Grapefruit League play."
In just a short time span, the Nationals went from winning the World Series to a team getting completely blown out, and it's not a good look or feeling. Oh, by the way, Opening Day is in seven short days away. This reminds us of an article that we wrote last fall: Perspective: Is Dave Martinez the right manager to lead the Nationals Rebuild? Only time will tell...
