Welcome to the Morning Briefing!  here filling in for Hayden today. Let’s get right into what’s happening around the Washington Nationals for today.

Leading this Morning's Briefing: Nationals take the series against the Braves.

After getting swept by the New York Mets, the Washington Nationals bounced back and took their series against the Atlanta Braves.

With yesterday afternoon's win, the Nationals are now 9-4 (.692) against the Atlanta Braves since September 24, 2023. I will not go into details about the game yesterday, as you can read my game recap here, but I will say that this team is kind of strange, fun, and annoying all at once. No matter what, this season will be interesting to see how everything plays out for the remainder of the summer.

On a personal note, I took my son to yesterday’s game, and I had a lot of fun; the atmosphere at Nats Park was great, and despite many Atlanta Braves fans in attendance, Nationals fans brought the energy. I guess scoring seven runs in an inning makes it fun.

The Nationals have a well-deserved day off today, and they will be traveling to Detroit to kick off a quick three-game mid-week series before returning home on Friday to face the Miami Marlins. Here are the probable pitching matchups for the Detroit series.

  • Tuesday, June 11, 2024 - LHP Mitchell Parker (4-3; 3.47 ERA) vs. RHP Kenta Maeda (2-2; 6.25 ERA)

  • Wednesday, June 12, 2024 - RHP Jake Irvin (4-5; 3.12 ERA) vs. RHP Reese Olson (1-7; 3.43 ERA)

  • Thursday, June 13, 2024 -  LHP MacKenzie Gore (5-5; 3.57 ERA) vs. RHP Casey Mize (1-4; 4.73 ERA)

On a personal note, I am going to be taking over the Nats Report Instagram handle on Sunday for all of next week because I am going on an epic three-city, seven-day baseball road trip with my family! I am going to Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Cincinnati; I hope that you follow along with me on my trip via Instagram! Don’t worry. We will still have our daily Nationals content on all our channels! You will not miss a thing!
