Leading today’s Morning Briefing: Longtime Red Sox player David Ortiz was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. After no players were elected on last year’s Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot. This year's class only had former Boston Red Sox David Ortiz. David Ortiz was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday evening, making him the fourth player from the Dominican Republic to be inducted. Ortiz was elected with a 77.9% vote in his first year of eligibility. Notable players not inducted in their last year of eligibility included Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Curt Schilling. Players are elected by eligible members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America and must be named on 75% of ballots in order to receive a spot in the Hall in Cooperstown, New York.
