Josiah Gray - The new pitcher that the Nationals received from the LA Dodgers in exchange for Max Scherzer and Trea Turner, put in another great pitching performance. In yesterday's game, Gray gave up two solo home runs in six innings of work and worked his way out of a late-outing jam. Yesterday's game was the second start for Gray with the Nationals, following a five-inning and 71-pitch start in his debut. Josiah Gray's Line: 6.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 Ks, 2 HRs, 87 P, 55 S, 4/4 GO/FO.
Run Support: Yesterday, the Nationals got eight runs on eleven hits. Home runs came from Juan Soto, Josh Bell, and Carter Kieboom. Additionally, Ryan Zimmerman also had two-out RBI. In addition to having another great pitching performance, Josiah Gray got his first major league hit; once again, Riley Adams got another hit against his former team. This time he hit a double, bringing his batting average up to .222, and his OPS now sits at .707. It will be interesting to see how the Nationals will navigate having three great catchers next season: Tres Barrera, Riley Adams, and Keibert Ruiz, the centerpiece of the Max Scherzer/Trea Turner trade.
The Nationals are now 52-68, sit in fourth place in the NL East, and are 13.5 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves.

Recently, MLB Pipeline updated its top 100 prospect list and Pitching prospect Cade Cavalli and rose from No. 99 to No. 41 and other Nationals prospects that made jumps include catcher Keibert Ruiz (from No. 57 to No. 19) and Nationals first-round draft pick SS Brady House entered the top 100 prospects list at No. 60.
Not bad for a team who had one of the worst farm systems in the majors at the beginning of the year.

Nationals President of Baseball Ops and General Manager Mike Rizzo joined 106.7 The Fan's Sports Junkies and discussed Washington's plans regarding Max Scherzer this winter. In the interview, the Junkies asked if the Nationals would be interested in re-signing Max Scherzer. In response, Rizzo said: "Never Say Never..."
NBC Sports Washington has the wrap-up of the interview: "If Scherzer were to return to the Nationals, it wouldn't be the first time a team traded one of its stars in the final year of his contract, only to re-sign him the following winter. We saw the New York Yankees do such with Aroldis Chapman, whom they traded to the Cubs in 2016 at the deadline in a package focused around Gleyber Torres. After winning the title with Chicago, Chapman returned to the Yankees that winter.
Scherzer is expected to be the top starting pitcher on the free-agent market this winter. He'll likely have multiple suitors -- as he did at the trade deadline -- and will be able to thoroughly weigh all his options before signing with the respective team of his choosing. 'Max has been a big part of my life, I drafted him in 2006 and continue to be close to him to this day," Rizzo said. "He's going to go to a team of his choice. He's going to pick and choose the criteria that works for him.'"
