Nats Go .500 on Week, Contine to Push Forward
Sweeping the Brewers and Splitting the Pirates Series, Nats Take Step in the Right Direction

As the Nats continue their climb to .500 on the season, we have seen some sound improvement from the squad. This week, the Nats pitching was finally able to find their footing in some of their outings, having 2 games where they allowed less than 4 runs. Along with how the rest of the season has gone, the Nats offense remained unstoppable in 5 out of the 6 games this week, with the Nats still sitting at the 3rd most runs per game scored in the entire MLB (5.60).
Pitching-wise, starting pitchers Foster Griffin and Jake Irvin had a great week, and leading the bullpen this week was PJ Poulin. Foster Griffin, in 2 outings this week, gained a 1-0 record through 10.2 innings pitched, allowing only 4 total earned runs and 8 strikeouts. Jake Irvin, despite the 2-0 loss to the Pirates Wednesday, put together a great start as well, pitching 5 innings, allowing only 2 earned runs and striking out 5. In a bullpen that has continued to struggle and attempted to improve, PJ Poulin had a strong week. In 4 appearances, Poulin tallied a 2.25 ERA, with 4 innings pitched and only 1 run allowed. If the Nats are going to continue to win games, solid performances throughout the week from relievers will be needed.
Offensively, Nats’ CJ Abrams and Daylen Lile had the hot hand this week. Abrams playing seemingly unstoppable in the last 7 days, has had 21 at bats. In those 21 at bats he has tallied 10 hits and 3 walks, alongside 4 RBIs and 2 Homers. Leading the team in almost all hitting stats, CJ Abrams should continue to shine and push for All-Star honors as the season continues onward. Daylen Lile also had a good week for the Nats, tallying 9 hits and a walk in 29 plate appearances this week. Lile, the 23 year old star has provided a great spark to the Nats offense so far, hitting his first homer of the season in yesterday’s loss to the Giants.
In the upcoming week, look for the offense to stay on the attack, continuing to put up no less than 5 runs a game. Hopefully, the pitching can continue to find their rhythm as well, putting up some solid outings to give the offense some run support, and propel the Nats to an above .500 week, needing a 5-2 week to get to get to 14-13 on the year.
