Nats Extremely Solid Start to Season
Despite 3-5 record, playing good ball considering teams they’ve faced

8 Games into the season, the Nats stand solid at 3-5, 4th in the NL East. However, any fan who watched the games this week knows that the Nats should be 4-4, possibly even 5-3. Dropping the series to the Phillies in heartbreaking fashion was definitely a setback, but they look to gain some Sunday momentum with their final home game against the dodgers.

Offensively, despite the losses the Nats have been relatively strong, averaging the 2nd most runs per game at 6.29. Leading the way for their explosive offense so far has been Joey Wiemer, Daylen Lile, and Brady House, all tallying above a .346 batting average 9+ hits and 3+ RBIs.

On the other side of the ball is where the struggle has been. The Nats stand 29th in errors per game with 1.29 and the 28th most allowed runs per game at 5.86. However, as long as the bats can continue staying hot, we can hope that practice and development together as a team will get the teams pitching rotation and bullpen the confidence they need to start stringing good outings together.

Looking for growth in the week ahead, continue to watch CJ Abrams heat up, as in the last 7 games he has tallied 14 RBIs and hit 3 Homeruns in 3 straight games. Also keep watching James Wood’s at bats, as he has gotten off to a slow start batting .111. Still batting lead off and scoring a run in yesterday’s game, he will slowly find his groove as the Nats and their fans know how dangerous he can be once he gets his rhythm.
