Nats Tally Strong Week, Continue Showing Out

In another solid week for the Nats, they go 4-2 since Saturday, continuing to push forward above the .500 threshold. In a stretch of the season where playing great baseball is crucial, the Nats have been good so far, continuing to make their case for buying at the deadline. Prior to the season, just about every outlet and “professional” had the Nats projected in the bottom 5 teams, and written off from any chance at a playoff picture. Currently, 76 games in, the Nats are an arguable top 10 team, 1 game out of the playoff picture. A few more good weeks like they have been doing, and the Nats have a chance to go farther shocking the world.

Worth noting, to start their 4 game win streak in the start of the week, the Nats were propelled by a solid Cade Cavalli outing. Continuing to be a solid starter for the Nats, keeping his ERA below 4.00, Cade was set to get the winning streak back on track in last night’s game, until they scratched him shortly before the game due to food poisoning. Thoughts go out to him as he battles a nasty little virus, but on the bright side he should work his way into the rotation in the next couple of days, and hopefully not skip a beat as he goes back to shoving for the Nats starting rotation.

As All-Star voting continues to heat up, to start the week CJ Abrams was a seeming lock, leading the NL Shortstop voting, but outfielder James Wood was 7th, in a vote where he should’ve easily been pushing the top 3. However, it seems Wood took this personally, quickly leading to the Nats 4 game streak, and in the last 6 games, where Wood tallied a .347 average, 2 homers and 3 walks in 23 at bats. Although the biased voters might not give him his well deserved starting All-Star bid, Wood will continue to fight and be the glue of the Washington Nationals as the season goes on. Be sure to vote and give Wood and Abrams the chance they deserve!

Last week, we discussed how the Nats flaw this season had been losing more home games than winning. This week however, they took a turn in the right direction winning 4 straight home games, and getting the Nats crowd to finally show out for them. If you don’t believe me go ahead and Google “Nats tarps off” to see some amazing shots of your Nats fans cheering on the new wonder kids. As the Nats go into a 4 game series against the Phillies this week, let’s hope they can jump them for a playoff spot and get their home streak going again.
