Nats Start Hot
Nationals win Season Opener 10-4 against Cubs

On Thursday’s MLB Opening Day, the Nats walked into Wrigley Field and showed the sold out 39,712 crowd that the Nats are not a team to take lightly this year. Despite a rough 2025 and being looked down on all offseason by analysts and the rest of the MLB, the Nats took their new roster, their brand new manager and have now started off the season 1-0 in their opener against the Chicago Cubs.

While a win against the Cubs to start the season is nice, the manor they did it in is the real feat from the Nats Thursday. Rather than squeaking by the Cubs in a close one, the Nats destroyed the Cubs in a 10-4 dominant fashion. Extending their lead to 7-2 in the 4th, by the time the 7th came around with the Nats up 8-3, the game really felt out of hand for the Cubs.

Nats Opening Day pitcher Cade Cavalli had a simple but strong start, pitching 3.2 innings with 5 strikeouts and 2 runs allowed. However, accredited with the win for the Nationals was relief pitcher Brad Lord, who shoved 2.1 innings for the Nats giving up only one run, and posting a 3.86 ERA, moving his record to 1-0 to start off the year.

On the hitting side of things, there were to many bright spots to cover, with 7 Nats players recording a hit. We saw 3 homers in the game, with Joey Wiemer starting them off, followed by Jacob Young and Brady House. House and Wiemer were the 2 standouts for this game with Joey Wiemer going an impressive 3-3 with a homer, 2 singles and a walk. Along with him, Brady House, who notably had the best spring training performance of any hitter for the Nats, continued his hot streak batting 2-5 with a homer and a single.
