1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Backward
Right when it felt the Nats finally got it all figured out, the bullpen took them back to square one

Just when it looked like the Nationals were finally finding their groove, the reality of the team decided to hit hard this week. After entering the weekend with 4 straight series wins, the Nats lost a tough one against the Rays and from there the week fell apart. Not immediately however, as the Nats won the first game against the Phillies on Monday and we were considering them getting an early guaranteed series split or series win. Come the 9th inning of Tuesday’s game to do so however, the Nats had a 99.0% chance of winning with one out left, and lost the game. After the Nats had scored 8 runs and allowed 6 the Nats bullpen allowed 6 straight 2 out runs
This was a tough loss, but compared to the rest of this season, it was just another one to brush off and forget about it. Sadly, it was hard for fans to put it behind them when in Wednesday’s game in the 9th inning, after the Nats had once again compiled a lead, there was one out remaining again. This time again with 2 outs and a 96.6% chance of winning the game, the Nats bullpen one again allowed a 2 run homer to wi the game. It is to a point where fans where unless the bullpen changes, there is little hope for the season’s future.
Not only is it breaking the fan’s heart, but you also can’t help but feel terrible for the starting pitching, who have played extremely solid as of late. Other than these 2 games, there is another instance where Foster Griffin was done dirty by the bullpen, pitching 6.0 innings, 5 strikeouts and allowing 1 run in a game where the Nats scored 10 runs. They lost that game and Griffin was not earned a win.
With 23 blown saves on the year, there is really only one direction for ownership to look, and it has to happen sooner than later. If the bullpen is able to hold on to just half of those games, the Nats would have the best record in baseball. They have the young offensive pieces to trade, and while it might hurt to see such talent go, this is the best Nats team since 2019 and with no moves towards the bullpen they are throwing it all away.
To end the recap on a high note at least, CJ Abrams finished first place in NL Shortstop voting. It is well earned honors, but the hard work is not done yet, as come Monday it is our job to continue showing the love, and make sure to vote him as an All-Star game starter. Well Done CJ!
