Nats Show Positive Glimpses, Continuing to Find Their Groove
The Nats Continue to Have Different Pieces Show Up

While the Nats continue to fight with their young team towards .500 on the season, we saw something new from this week… 2 great defensive and pitching outings. While we saw a lot of the same from the pitching in other games, the Nats were able to win 2 games this week where they allowed 4 runs or less; a step in the right direction.
In a 2-4 week, the Nats have a lot to build on moving forward, but also a lot to be proud of. For starters, coming into the season, just about every single sports “expert” and analyst had no hope for the Nationals young core, projecting a dead last NL East finish and a team with few bright spots. Well 27 games into the season, the Nats currently are only 5 games off of .500 and currently sit middle of the pack at 3rd place in the NL East. While technically these aren’t numbers to gloat about, here’s ones for the Nats doubters coming into the season. The Nats score the 3rd most runs per game in the MLB so far. Coming in with 5.48 runs per game, they are above current powerhouses like the Dodgers and Yankees.
Scoring the 3rd most runs per game should definitely equate to higher than a 11-16 record so far, but that’s where the Nats are showing glimpses as they work to still finding their groove. It’s no secret so far this year that the Nats bullpen has been abysmal. No bullpen has allowed more runs or homers than the Nats has this year. Luckily, with how good the Nats offense has been, the coaching staff and front office knows the problem holding them back, and have been working towards fixes to the rotation diligently.
For example this week may have been a turning point as the season goes forward, and the Nats continue to chase a game where they put up good offensive numbers AND defensive numbers. Having a game where they pitched their first shutout this season, and a game where they held the Braves #1 offense to 4 total runs, there is hope in the air for this team.
