Daily Report From Rochester:
CHARLOTTE, NC. — After yet another rain delay, the Charlotte Knights emerged with a dramatic 4–3 walk-off win over the Rochester Red Wings Friday night.
Charlotte completed the comeback in the bottom of the ninth, drawing three consecutive walks, capped by Dominic Fletcher’s bases-loaded free pass, that brought home pinch runner Dru Baker for the game-winning run.
Pinckney opened the scoring in the top of the fourth with a two-run blast to right field after RF Nick Schnell reached on an infield single. It was Pinckney’s 16th home run of the season, tying him with Schnell for the team lead.
Rochester extended its lead to 3–0 in the sixth when Jackson Cluff ripped a leadoff double and scored two batters later on Pinckney’s RBI single up the middle.
Charlotte answered in the bottom of the sixth. Ryan Noda worked a walk, and Bryan Ramos crushed a 402-foot home run to center field to bring the Knights within one. Charlotte tied it in the eighth when Noda and Ramos reached again, setting up Fletcher’s sacrifice fly to center to make it 3–3.
The Knights staged the decisive rally in the ninth after Curtis Mead walked and Baker stole second. One intentional and two unintentional walks loaded the bases for Fletcher, who showed patience again to seal the victory.
The Red Wings and Knights continue their series Saturday night. Chase Solesky is scheduled to start for Rochester and Charlotte still hasn’t picked an arm yet, with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. EDT.
