Daily Report From Rochester:
CHARLOTTE, NC. — A furious six-run rally in the sixth inning powered the Rochester Red Wings to a 9–8 comeback victory over the Charlotte Knights on Saturday night, giving them a 3–2 series lead with one game remaining.
Rochester trailed 7–2 entering the top of the sixth before sending 11 batters to the plate in a relentless offensive surge. Nick Schnell sparked the inning with a single, and nine different Red Wings recorded RBIs by the end of the night. The go-ahead run came in the eighth inning, when Jackson Cluff’s sacrifice fly plated Nasim Nuñez after a pair of perfectly placed bunts.
The game began with Charlotte jumping out to an early 2–0 lead in the first, extended to 6–2 by the fourth, and pushed to 7–2 in the fifth on Dominic Fletcher’s solo homer. But Rochester refused to go quietly.
Andrés Chaparro led the charge with a second-inning leadoff homer, his 11th of the season and added a double during the sixth-inning rally.
Rochester’s bullpen held steady late, with RHP Eduardo Salazar shutting the door in the ninth to secure the one-run win.
The six-game series wraps up Sunday at Truist Field, where the Wings will roll out Andrew Alvarez and the Knights will turn to veteran RHP Mike Clevinger for the finale. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. EDT.
