Daily Report From Rochester:
CHARLOTTE, NC. — The Rochester Red Wings wrapped up their six-game series in Charlotte with an offensive outburst, slugging four home runs en route to a 12-7 win over the Knights on a rainy Sunday evening.
Crews, rehabbing from the Nationals, delivered his first multi-hit game of the week-long assignment, going 2-for-4 with a towering three-run homer in the sixth and a double. Chaparro also went deep, his third homer of the series, while Lipscomb collected three hits, including a pair of doubles.
After falling behind 1-0 in the first, the Wings stormed back with back-to-back home runs from Andrew Pinckney and Jackson Cluff to take a 2-1 lead in the second. Rochester never looked back, building on that momentum with a three-run sixth inning, highlighted by Crews’ 408-foot blast to dead center that pushed the lead to 9-4.
Charlotte kept the game within reach, clawing back to make it 10-7 by the end of the eighth. But Rochester added two more insurance runs in the ninth, capitalizing on walks and a clutch RBI single from recent trade acquisition Christian Franklin, his second of the night.
Starter Andrew Alvarez allowed just one earned run across three innings, while the bullpen combined to scatter six runs over the final six frames.
The Red Wings (42-63) will open a six-game series on the road Tuesday against the Norfolk Tides. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EDT.
