Pitching in his home state of Minnesota for the first time in his big-league career, the right-hander delivered a standout performance in front of hundreds of family and friends. Irvin worked seven strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, as the Washington Nationals defeated the Minnesota Twins 7–2 on July 27 to secure the series victory.
The Nationals jumped ahead early thanks to a familiar spark: CJ Abrams opened the game with his fifth leadoff home run of the season, setting the tone for an energetic offensive night. Josh Bell added three hits and drove in key runs to help Washington build a comfortable lead.
Irvin, meanwhile, kept his composure on the mound, mixing his fastball and curveball effectively to keep the Twins off balance. The win marked one of his most memorable outings, not only for its quality but for its setting — a triumphant return home in front of a hometown crowd.
