(Baltimore, MD) - The Washington Nationals continued shaping their 2026 roster on Sunday afternoon acquiring infielder Jorbit Vivas from the New York Yankees in exchange for right-handed pitcher Sean Paul Liñan, the team announced.

Vivas, 25, brings contact ability and patience at the plate to Washington’s infield. The Venezuelan native hit .270 with 21 doubles, a triple, four home runs, 43 RBI, 64 walks, 12 stolen bases, and 59 runs scored across 100 games for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2025. His .389 on-base percentage ranked eighth among all Yankees prospects, underscoring his strong approach and consistency.

Originally signed by the Los Angeles Dodgers as an international free agent on July 4, 2017, Vivas made his Major League debut on May 2, 2025, appearing in 29 games for the Yankees. During that stint, he recorded one home run, two doubles, five RBI, five walks, and six runs scored.

Over seven Minor League seasons, Vivas has produced a solid track record of offensive consistency, hitting .271 with 138 doubles, 21 triples, 52 home runs, 352 RBI, 344 walks, 94 stolen bases, and 442 runs scored. His ability to control the strike zone and maintain a high contact rate makes him a valuable addition to a Nationals roster looking to improve its on-base production.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Washington Nationals in turn designated right-handed pitcher Griff McGarry for assignment.

This move reflects the Nationals’ continued effort to build depth and flexibility across their infield while identifying players with strong plate discipline a key trend under Toboni’s front office direction.
