Today, the Washington Nationals announced the remainder of their 2022 Major League coaching staff. It will include.

Tim Bogar — Bench Coach

Bio: Bogar, 54, returns for his fifth season on Dave Martinez’s staff, his third as the bench coach. He spent two seasons (2018–19) as Washington’s first base coach. During his tenure with the Nationals, Bogar has worked extensively with Washington’s infielders. The 2022 season will mark Bogar’s 13th season as a Major League coach.

Darnell Coles — Hitting Coach

Bio: Coles, 59, was hired as Washington’s hitting coach on Oct. 18. He joins the Nationals after spending the previous three seasons (2019–21) as the hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Prior to his time with the Diamondbacks, Coles served as the hitting coach for the Milwaukee Brewers from 2015–18. Coles was the assistant hitting coach for the Detroit Tigers in 2014, his first career coaching stint at the Major League level.

Pat Roessler — Assistant Hitting Coach

Bio: Roessler, 61, returns to the Nationals for his third season as the assistant hitting coach. He joined Dave Martinez’s staff in 2020, after spending the 2019 season as a player development advisor in the New York Yankees organization. Roessler spent 2018 as hitting coach for the New York Mets after serving as the assistant hitting coach from 2014–17.

Jim Hickey — Pitching Coach

Bio: Hickey, 60, returns for his second season as Washington’s pitching coach. The 2022 season will be his 38th season in professional baseball and his 17th as a Major League pitching coach. Hickey served in the role with the Chicago Cubs (2018), Tampa Bay Rays (2007–17) and Houston Astros (2004–06).

Eric Young Jr. — First Base Coach

Bio: An outfielder and veteran of 10 Major League seasons, Young Jr. appeared in 651 Major League games with the Colorado Rockies (2009–13), New York Mets (2013–14, 2015), Atlanta Braves (2015), New York Yankees (2016) and Los Angeles Angels (2017–18). He was the National League stolen base champion in 2013 with 46 stolen bases.

Gary DiSarcina — Third Base Coach

Bio:DiSarcina, 53, joins Dave Martinez’s staff after spending the previous four seasons (2018–21) with the New York Mets. He most recently served as New York’s third base coach for three seasons (2019–21) after serving as the Mets’ bench coach in 2018. He spent 2017 as the bench coach for the Boston Red Sox and prior to that, spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels as their first base coach (2016) and third base coach (2014–15).

Henry Blanco — Catching and Strategy Coach

Bio: Blanco, 50, moves from bullpen coach to the newly created position of catching and strategy coach. Prior to this change, Blanco served as Washington’s bullpen coach since joining the staff in 2018. The 2022 season will mark his eighth consecutive season coaching alongside Dave Martinez. The two also worked together while Blanco held the role as the Chicago Cubs’ quality assurance coach for three seasons (2015–17).



Ricky Bones — Bullpen Coach

Bio: Bones, 52, joins the Nationals staff as bullpen coach after serving in the same role for the New York Mets (2012–21). He spent part of the 2019 season as a pitching coach in the Mets Minor League system. This marks Bones’ second stint in the Nationals organization after having been the pitching coach for Single-A Potomac of the Carolina League in 2005.
