WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Nationals claimed outfielder Joey Wiemer off of waivers from the Marlins on Monday afternoon. The former Brewers fourth-rounder from Ohio has taken part in three big-league seasons, hitting his way to a .205 career batting average. In his 2025 campaign with Miami, he hit .236 with three homers in just 55 at-bats. The acquisition of the 26-year-old (who will be 27 for the start of the season) carries little risk and big upside as he will almost certainly be in competition for a Major League roster spot come Opening Day.
