Nats Continue to Win Some, Lose Some in Uphill Battle Towards .500

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Coming off a win Sunday, the Nats drop their game Monday, continuing to struggle to get a win streak going. This remainder of this 4 game series against the number one NL East Braves will be a chance to slingshot their momentum as the week continues.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
After losing a game that was close until the 6th inning against the Braves, the Nats will look to bounce back today and get the series evened up 1-1 with 2 games on the horizon. A win or even a tie in the Series would be huge against the Braves, as they are currently the number one NL East team, a division that is wide open for the taking to start the season.
On the positive side of a bleak pitching season for the Nats, in the last 3 games, the Nats Starting pitchers have looked fantastic, something that must continue if the Nats are going to keep winning games. Miles Mikolas, Jake Irvin and Cade Cavalli pitched a combined 13 innings in starts in their last 3 games, allowing only 3 total earned runs, fantastic numbers.
Despite those 3 great starting performances, the Nats are only 1-2 in their last 3 games. Why? The bullpen seemingly continues to struggle to hold onto games. No bullpen in the MLB has let up more runs than the Nats, standing at 71 earned runs allowed, 5 more than the next worst team. Look for manager Blake Butera to look to give new guys new opportunities as he looks for reliable arms to call on and keep them in the lead in games.
The Nats really are so close to being a winning team as their offense has been amazing still and the starting pitchers are finding their groove. With above average stats in 2/3 pieces, the Nats simply need to figure out the bullpen and the climb to .500 will be a breeze.
🗣️ LOCKER ROOM LORE
After a costly mistake in their loss Saturday to the Giants, Curtis Mead bounced back Sunday, hitting a home run, scoring one of the Nats 3 runs on their road to the bounce back 3-0 victory. Blake Butera was extremely proud of the 25 year-old’s ability to keep his head up and preform.
“Huge bounceback from Curtis, really happy for him, proud of him,” manager Blake Butera said. “We had some good conversations today about, obviously, last night’s game and some of the mistakes we made -- not just Curtis but as a group -- and to see them learn from [them], flush them and be ready to go today? Yeah, happy, happy for Curtis, huge home run he hit there.”

⚾ DUGOUT DISPATCH
Nats Single-A affiliate Fred Nats have amazing 4 game win stretch, moving them to 10-5 and first in their division. Carrying on the winning tradition, the Nats 3 other farm league teams are also above .500, led by all being propelled by the Nats insanely talented young prospects.
📊 THE BOX SCORE:
In their last 4 games, Fred Nats tally 8-2, 10-3, 7-1, and 10-2 victories, helped out a lot by Nationals number one overall pick and prospect Eli Willits. After trying to find his footing in the big leagues, Eli has seemingly found it, tallying 5 RBI, his first 2 professional homers, and 6 hits in his last 5 games. Let’s hope he keeps up the great work and moves up.
Nats Double-A affiliate Harrisburg Senators have also been extremely dominant moving to 11-4 on the year heading to Altoona for the upcoming week. Nats number 14 prospect pitcher Jackson Kent has been heating up, throwing 6 strikeouts in 4 innings as he gets an increased workload as the season moves on.
Nats High-A affiliate Wilmington Blue Rocks move to 8-6 on the season, led by continued strong numbers by Nats number 9 prospect Devin Fitz-Gerald. The young DH is batting .333 on the season, tallying 2 hits, 2 runs, an RBI and a walk in their last game.
The National’s Triple-A affiliate Rochester Red Wings move to 11-10 on the year heading into a tough series vs. Scranton. RHP Riley Cornelio has had an amazing start to 2026 so far for the Red Wings, tallying a 2.45 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched with 27 strikeouts. An arm that we may see on the major league team in the future.
