Washington D.C. - In the last series of the 2024 season, the Washington Nationals kicked things off with a win over the Philadelphia Phillies last night at Nationals Park, 9-1.
The Nationals rebounded after a tough series against the Kansas City Royals, improving their record to __—__ and are now 37-42 at Nationals Park this season. The Nationals are now 8-18 in series openers at Nationals Park and are 15-8 while wearing their City Connect Cherry Blossom Jerseys this season.
Right-hander Trevor Williams made another strong start tonight, his second since returning from an injury sustained on June 4, 2024. Williams pitched five innings of shout-out baseball and only gave up three hits. Additionally, Williams faced 18 batters and threw 77 pitches, with -49 of them being strikes.
Trevor Williams concluded the season with a remarkable 2.03 ERA (5 earned runs in 66.2 innings pitched), establishing a new record for the lowest ERA by a starting pitcher in Nationals history (2005-present) with at least ten games started.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Nationals used a four-run first inning to pull away from the Philadelphia Phillies.
Stone Garrett made a huge impact in his first major league game this season, finishing 3-4 with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, registering his fourth career three-hit game.

Also checking in with a good night was Juan Yepez, who went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored. Yepez has now reached base in 16 of his last 21 games and is hitting .314, going 22-for-70 with three doubles, three home runs, eight RBI, six walks, and 13 runs scored during this span.
James Wood also counted his hitting streak last night by scoring 1-for-5 with a run. Wood has now hit safely in seven of his last eight games, has a batting average of .276, and is going 8-for-29, which includes two doubles, a home run, two RBI, six walks , one stolen base, and scored four runs.
The sole Philly run came in the top of the eighth inning when Austin Hays hit a solo home run. Over Hay's last 15 games, he is hitting .286 (14-for-49), including four doubles, a home run, two RBI, and four runs scored.
Next, the Washington Nationals will continue their last series of the season by sending LHP MacKenzie Gore (10-12, 4.04) to the mound to face the Phillies. Gore has also been impressive lately, as he has a record of 3-1 with a 1.82 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 34.2 IP in his last six starts. The Phillies are scheduled to send RHP Zack Wheeler (16-7, 2.56) to the mound to face the Nationals.
