How Did the Pitching Staff Perform?
Miles Mikloas made his second appearance of the spring and got off to a bad start in the first inning. Mikolas allowed a three-run homer to Brett Baty with just one out in the inning. Other than the homer, the right-hander pitched well, striking out four across three innings pitched. Luis Perales pitched the fourth inning and was electric, reaching triple digits on the radar. Andre Granillo pitched in the fifth and Orlando Rhibalta in the sixth. Jackson Rutledge got the ball in the sixth and was atrocious, walking three and recording just two outs. AJ Puk was tasked with bailing Rutledge out of the inning and was successful. Griff McGarry pitched in the eighth and struck out one, and Gus Varland pitched in the ninth and walked two.
What Defensive Plays Changed the Game?
Joey Weimer recorded an outfield assist in the fifth inning. Bo Bichette singled to right, and Weimer cut down Jorge Polanco attempting to take third base. While Weimer won’t likely make the team, it’s good to see the Nats making plays on defense. Washington made no errors, and it was a cleanly played game.
