Wilmington Blue Rocks vs. Brooklyn Cyclones: Game Recap - July 9, 2024

Wilmington, DE – Tonight, the Wilmington Blue Rocks defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-3. RHP Jarlin Susana took the mound, where he pitched five innings, giving up four hits and allowing two runs on two earned runs, with five strikeouts and two walks. His record is now 1-0. Last week, Susana was promoted from Single-A Fredericksburg to High-A Wilmington. This is Jarlin's first start in High-A.

Jumping Ahead Early at Home

Joe Naranjo came through with a single to centerfield, driving in Jeremy De La Rosa and Murphy Stehly to give Wilmington an early lead. The inning ended with Maxwell Romero Jr. grounding out. In the bottom third inning Jeremy De La Rosa hit a home run on a 2-2 count to right-center field, giving Wilmington a 3-0 lead.

Wilmington had a great fifth inning.

Jarlin Susana gave up a single on a ground ball to Nick Morabito, the first batter he faced in the inning. Susana bounced back by striking out the next batter. Catcher Maxwell Romero Jr. then threw out Morabito, who was caught stealing second base. Susana struck out the following batter to end the inning. In the bottom of the fifth Murphy Stehly led off with a single and came around to score on a single by Joe Naranjo, who reached second base on a fielding error. The Blue Rocks added to their lead as the next two batters walked, and Gavin Dugas was hit by a pitch, increasing the score to Wilmington 5, Brooklyn 2. The inning ended with Phillip Glasser lining out to the Cyclones’ shortstop.

Wilmington’s Bullpen Keeps Brooklyn at Bay

Wander Arias replaced Jarlin Susana and pitched two scoreless innings, giving up no hits and no runs. In the top of the eighth, Brendan Collins came in and pitched into the top of the ninth, allowing one run on a sacrifice fly, which brought the score to Wilmington 5, Brooklyn 3. In the top of the ninth, Matt Cronin struck out two batters and allowed no hits, no walks, and no runs to secure the victory for Wilmington.

Wilmington Blue Rocks RHP Bryan Caceres is scheduled to start with a 2-6 record and a 5.45 ERA.

Brooklyn Cyclones RHP Jonah Tong is set to take the mound with a 4-1 record and a 3.02 ERA.

First Pitch at Daniel S Frawley Stadium is scheduled for Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
