According to Jesse Rogers of ESPN, the Washington Nationals are among the teams that have shown interest in Jeimer Candelario.
Jeimer Candelario was with the Washington Nationals at the start of the 2023 season as they took a chance with the player and signed him to a $5MM one-year contract last year after a not-so-good 2022 season with the Tigers.
In 2023 with the Nationals, Candelario went 258/.342/.481 over 99 games. Washington traded him to the Cubs for prospects DJ Herz and Kevin Made, executing the kind of buy-low/midseason trade that has been part of the Nationals strategy over the past few seasons.
While with the Cubs, Candelario didn’t really perform as he hit 234/.318/.445 in 41 games as a Cub, finishing the 2023 season with a .251/.336/.471 batting line in 576 plate appearances, which could be one of the reasons why Canderlario is on the market once again.
