Rochester Red Wings left-hander Andrew Alvarez remains one of the most interesting Washington Nationals pitching prospects in Triple-A baseball. Alvarez was promoted to Rochester in June 2024 after earning Washington Nationals Minor League Pitcher of the Year honors, and he has continued to build his case as a future Major League Baseball starter.
For the second straight season, Red Wings manager Matt LeCroy chose Alvarez to be the club’s Opening Day starter, a strong sign of trust in his consistency, command, and maturity on the mound.
On Opening Day 2025, Alvarez delivered a quality outing, pitching five innings and allowing only one unearned run while leaving with a 1-0 lead. Buffalo later took the lead, so Alvarez was stuck with a no-decision,
