FREDERICKSBURG, VA - With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Jorgelys Mota hit a walk-off grand slam to send the Fredericksburg Nationals to the Carolina League playoffs for the second-straight season, defeating the Carolina Mudcats, 5-1, on Friday night at Virginia Credit Union Stadium.

Mota, launching his bat in the air as he celebrated down the first base line, delivered the 13th walk-off win of the season for Fredericksburg (64-63, 34-28), leading all of Minor League Baseball in that category.

It’s also the second-straight night that the Nationals have won via a walk-off, adding to the mystique of the ‘Cardiac FredNats’ moniker that has been bestowed upon the team in the second half of the season

Down 1-0 in the seventh inning, Brenner Cox hit a game-tying solo homer level the score at 1-1, leading to Mota’s walk-off slam in the ninth.

Starting pitcher Bryan Polanco was impressive across six innings of work, allowing four hits and one unearned run. Relief pitchers Ben Moore, just called up to the team, and Owen Puk held the Mudcats hitless over the final three innings of play.

Fredericksburg and Carolina continue their series on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. EST.
