Game Storylines and Notes

The Sens and SeaWolves meet for Game 5 of the series and Game 17 of the season between the two. The current series is tied at two games a piece and the season series is tied at eight games a piece. The teams are separated by a ½ game in the standings. This has been a very well played, close series through four games. Both teams are evenly matched and concentrating on getting themselves ready for a second half run. The only difference between the two teams has been Erie’s more consistent offense. The Senators seems to come more in spurts.

The Sens will hand the ball to opener Noah Dean who last pitched in Tuesday’s Game 1. Dean threw a hit less inning in relief but did surrender 3 walks before being able to work his way out of the jam. He also had a strikeout. Erie gives the ball to Kenny Serwa who last pitched 11 days again against Akron. In that game he went 6IP, 2R, 5H, 1B, 2Ks. The Sens will look to take advantage of Serwa on a 10 day rest since he last pitched.

We have a gorgeous night for baseball on tap this evening. Come out and support the home town Sens as they prepare for the stretch run of the season. It’s hard to believe because the season seems so fresh but there is only SIX home stands left after these next two games.

SeaWolves-Senators Game 4
LAST GAME RECAP

Erie’s offense went to work early on Sens starter Alex Clemmey last night. Seth Stephenson was hit by Clemmey in the first at bat of the game. A couple stolen bases, errors in the field by the Senators defense and a single and the home team found themselves down 2-0 before they even came to bat. Erie scored two more in the 2nd and 1 more in the third and the Sens were in a 5-0 hole that their up and down offense would be unable to bring them out of. The one thing about this Harrisburg Senators team is they rarely ever go down without a fight. A Sam Brown single drove in Ethan Petry. Leandro Pineda tripled one batter later scoring Brown from first. Kervin Pichardo will get a ball to the outfield and score Pineda from third on a sac fly to pull the Sens within two. That’s all the closer they would get. The Sens would get one more hit the rest of the evening after that three run fourth which came on a two out double by Leandro Pineda. Kervin Pichardo would ground out the next at bat and the Sens would fall 7-3 to the Sea Wolves.

Erie starter Max Alba who went 5IP, 3R, 5H, 1BB, 5K on 77P would earn the win. Sens start Alex Clemmey, who battled through another rough outing, would take the loss. Clemmey went 4 1/3IP, 6R, 7H, 4BB, 4K on 95 pitches. Clemmey has now lost three of his last four starts. The Sens are hopeful for a big second half turnaround from the talented lefty.

Up Next…

On Deck…

The Sens and SeaWolves will meet for the last time on City Island this season in the finale of the 6 game set tomorrow afternoon, Sunday. June 21st. Treat your Fathers to a baseball game on City Island. LHP Jared Simpson (0-0, 2.67 ERA) will be the opener for the Sens in Sunday’s finale. He will be opposed by LHP Andrew Sears making his second appearance of the series. Connor Van Scoyoc was the scheduled starter for the Sens but has since been removed. First pitch for Game 6 will be Sunday afternoon for matinee baseball at 1:00 PM.

In the hole…

The Sens will get a day and a half to relax, reset and hop on a bus on Monday and head to Bowie, MD to take on the Chesapeake Bay Sox. The Bay Sox are currently 27-39 and in 6th place in the Southwest Divison standings. Game 1 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23rd at Prince George’s Stadium. First pitch is sceduled for 6:35 PM.

Connor Van Scoyoc Scratched

We’re working to learn why but as mentioned above Connor Van Scoyoc was scheduled to be the started for the Sens in the game six finale for the Senators. He was removed from that start this afternoon. Jared Simpson will now start in his place. We’ll bring the up to date information as to why when we’re made aware.

Why it matters:

This is a less than ideal update for a Senators staff who is already short on arms in the starting rotation. Prior to the scratch of Van Scoyoc the Sens were already using an opener every fifth day who would then hand the ball off to Kyle Luckham. Van Scoyoc only recently became a starting rotation piece as he spent a good part of the season in the bullpen but was moved to the rotation with bullpen rotations. We’re watching the developments and keep updating as the Sens look to establish a rotation for the second half.
